Description
The first seat of the municipal government, of this ancient building overlooking Piazza Maggiore part of the façade and the Torre dell’Arengo are still visible. The Voltone del Podestà once united the old buildings built towards the middle of the Thirteenth century, of which some parts have been lost. In 1484, thanks to the Bentivoglio family, the building was completely renovated according to the design of Architect Aristotele Fioravanti. The Palazzo del Podestà can only be visited during some events and manifestations.
The entrance is accessible and to access the upper floors there is an elevator located in the corridor on your left, watching the main entrance. Next to the Salone del Podestà there is the Voltone del Podestà, also completely accessible (entering from the side of the Fountain of Neptune and exiting on via Rizzoli). One peculiarity: under the Voltone a particular acoustic effect is created due to the vault. If you approach one of the four corners of the columns and talk, another person, in the opposite corner, will be able to hear your words.
