If you come to Bologna for university studies, this is the first area of the city that you will get to know. From the centre, where the prestigious Alma Mater Studiorum university is located, you can get out of town, through the market in the San Donato-San Vitale district up to the Cirenaica district. Walking through these streets, you recall the times of the first jurists, philosophers and philologists: famous places of knowledge, both residential and familiar. Trees and courtyards, squares full of umarell - the old men, who observe the work progresses in the road construction sites as a sort of guardians of the city -, bars with vintage table-football tables that recall that Sports bar style that was once so common to many Italian cities, where you almost never eat anything, where you can smell wine, peanuts, newspapers and coffee, and where you can always find regular customers. But you can also find historic streets, such as via Zamboni - the heart of the oldest university in the world and still very popular among international students -, as well as ancient buildings that are worth visiting.
