Description
Located near Piazza Minghetti, this church is mentioned in documents dating back to 1045. According to some sources, the hill on which it stands should have reproduced Mount Oliveto and was built for the commemoration of the places of Christ’s passion. The interior has Gothic shapes, with a Latin cross plant, three naves divided by octagonal pillars and an ogival cross-vaulted roof. The large presbytery was built in 1517 by Arduino degli Arriguzzi and restored in 1904 by Alfonso Rubbiani.
The entrance to the church has many stairs, but it is also possible to enter through the Department of History, Culture and Civilization, in Piazza San Giovanni in Monte 2. To overcome the slope, which has uneven ground and irregular tiles, it is advisable to follow the smooth paving on the left. On the ground floor there are accessible toilets (but make sure they do not require a university badge), benches on which to admire the internal courtyard and coffee machines (in addition to a fervent university life).
