Description
Historic building located in the centre of Bologna, on the façade of which stands the inscription “Place intended for daytime shows”. In fact, it was originally an outdoor arena, used as a popular summer theatre; later it was also used in winter thanks to the construction of a roof, and then permanently transformed into a cinema, in 1949. The theatrical activity was resumed only in the 1980s; today the Arena is the permanent theatre of the city and offers both classical and contemporary performances, with a wide programme. The building consists of two rooms (Sala Leo de Berardinis and Sala Thierry Salmon) and an outdoor space in the ancient cloister of the convent.
The Sala Leo de Berardinis is fully accessible, while there is a flight of stairs to access the second one. There is a freight elevator to go down, but it is recommended to report the need at the ticket office.
